How to Convert Readers into Customers

Your Worth is Better in Your Own Hands!

The focus should be on the content of a website. If readability isn’t there, people aren’t engaging, therefore won’t convert into return visitors or customers.

This is the concept of the next lesson, but first things first. We have made tremendous progress, we’ve completed Phase 1- (lessons 1-10) of Wealthy Affiliate’s Bootcamp (Affiliate Program).

    Are we Affiliate Marketers yet?

Affiliate Marketers, I don’t think so, not yet, but we should feel really good about where we are. I can honestly say if someone asked me 3 or 4 months ago if I thought I’d be right here, I would have to say no. It’s unfortunate that discovery sometimes has to come from hard times or after the occurrence of a negative situation. My situation (unemployed, hard times) led me here, I’m no different from anyone else. I have goals, decisions to make, bills to pay and I am certain that you do too.

    My goal?

My goal is to help myself of course and in the course of doing so, help as many people to discover that Affiliate Marketing is a possible solution. Unemployed, unappreciated, and very uncomfortable this was the space I occupied, it described my self-worth at one time. Allowing my last employer to define my worth as less than, is the space that many of us has occupied. That was a mistake that I plan to never make again. The solution I speak of? It is the means by way of putting my worth and value in my own hands. I believe Affiliate Marketing could help us to do just that, allow us to manage our own worth and value. No employer could say “we need you” and then in the same breathe say “we don’t need you anymore.” No employer could squeeze every ounce of loyalty from you and then in return don’t show any loyalty to you. That is the description of a vicious cycle that many of us face today. Can Affiliate Marketing create an avenue for us to make a living based on our own terms? Based on our own efforts? Not one person I know inspires to be unemployed or is happy to just be surviving. Let’s try to hold Wealthy Affiliate to our expectation of becoming successful Affiliate Marketers. Can Wealthy Affiliate create a space for us in the world of Affiliate Marketing?

We are newbies, beginners with no real experience in the Affiliate Marketing industry. Will Wealthy Affiliate be a gateway? Their Affiliate Program/Training is “for newbies and advanced marketers alike, our focus with all of our training is teaching you how to create a successful, long-term business within the online space”, per Wealthy Affiliate. This is what we want in return for our commitment to the training.

Personally, I would like to hold myself, you and Wealthy Affiliate accountable in the creation of “a successful, long-term business within the online space”.

How about you? Okay, let’s continue!

Our last encounter together we were giving ourselves credit for a job well done. We have an effective appearing website, we are still upright, we are still vertical, so onward!

    Lesson 1 Bootcamp Phase 2:

How to convert Readers to customers

    Creating Readable Content That Converts:

The introduction to this training is really specific, the focus of the training is to know how to make the content of our website/blog, readable. The emphasis is on how we would need to keep our content ideas brief and controlled. Doing this would allow the reader’s’ eyes to have white space (white background) and this helps with the readability. In this training the concentration is on the content of our website, if the readability isn’t there then people aren’t engaging in the content and therefore will not convert into return visitors and or customers.

We are being trained to know that there are 6 key points to creating quality readable posts/pages

    Small Paragraphs

Posts/pages should be brief and controlled (however, detailed), but most people are not wanting to read novels or long complicated tech text as posts. Small paragraphs break up the reading into small bite-size pieces.

Separate our ideas with HEADING (H/h) tabs

(H3 or H4, read the post) H=Heading/headline and the # = the size of the font/letters. By separating our ideas with headings, we are in turn letting our reader/visitor know what’s coming up next. The HEADLINE announces our next topic or idea. Easy enough, I think.

Black or dark grey text on white background.

I could definitely relate to this one because I wear glasses and it is much easier to read online blogs when the content is on a white background. When reading a paperback or hard covered books, the content within them has black typed written words on a white background.  Most reader’s eyes are used to seeing this. I have personally come across articles, other blog posts that had dark backgrounds and many of them were beautiful in terms of color, but the readability was pretty tough. I felt as though I had to refocus my vision constantly.

    Use conversational type speech

For me, this was fairly self-explanatory, especially within a blog. Frankly, I have no formal writing experience and I knew no other way of writing.  This type of writing is my writing style it is formed as we are speaking to each other and it is written in that way. Writing using conversational type speech helps create relatable factors, comfortability, and trust.

    Use a captivating headline

This training expresses the importance of having a captivating headline within posts and pages. Understanding why took me to my own experiences, the necessity of this key component helps create an interest for the reader/visitor to move forward into the reading. It helps create a need to know perception. I can say with all honesty that when I read a headline that made me feel like I needed to know, I moved forward into the content. It makes sense to me. My next step was to move forward because I wanted to know what was next.

Use a relevant image within the first fold of the page.

Being able to understand this concept helped me to see the real power of seeing is believing.

From a print standpoint, this can be huge. Some people are visual and if they are able to see how things are done or how things look, they will usually have a better understanding of it. The importance of showing (imagery) vs telling (text) can help with trust and it gives a better understanding for readers and visitors.

This concludes lesson 1 of Bootcamp Phase 2.

Are we all in at this point?

My interest and participation in Wealthy Affiliate’s Affiliate Program is not just something to be doing while I’m unemployed. This venture is not just to test the waters, I want us to be successful with this training. I/We are not just killing time here. My hope is, by going through this training with Wealthy Affiliate, being unemployed, barely making ends meet and being at the mercy of an employer that doesn’t appreciate loyalty will all be a distant past. The unemployed status needs to be replaced with a status that truly reflects a worth and value that is in our own hands.

The training that I received at Wealthy Affiliate on the subject of converting readers to buyers allows the creation of quality content to serve as helpful literature to the reader. I think that’s the goal, provide a service and help the reader to find what they are looking for. In part, to do so it is important to create readable content that converts (help the reader make a decision)!

Wealthy Affiliate, so far, so good!

          Thank you!

      2. Hi Dwilli – well done on this article about the Wealthy Affiliate Bootcamp.  I enjoyed reading through this and your style of writing made it easy to read and follow.

I thought this article was educational and should be helpful to other people.

I wish you the best of luck in your training,

        • Hello Michele,

Thank you for your kind words!

I am pleased you enjoyed reading my article and found that my writing style made it easy to read.

I learned a great deal from this lesson in the Bootcamp training at Wealthy Affiliate about writing specifically. The lesson also trained on how to write directly to targeted audiences to help them find what they are looking for online.

The training I found very helpful is the training I want others to find helpful as well.

Sharing my training experience, my hope is to help others to know that the possibilities are very real and that if I can earn online they could too!

Earning online is the goal I am training toward!

Thank you again for your well wishes!

          All the best,

      3. You are someone who practices what you teach.  Awesome.

I think the two most valuable tips for me have to do with paragraph size and conversational style.  I’m with you, very hard to read long sets of copy.  When I hit a site where it looks like a novel, I bolt.

The conversational style has always been difficult for me.  I like more formal because I write for part of my profession, but I forget that people don’t make connections with robots.  It’s cool that you are also documenting your journey.  You never run out of things to write! LOL

        Thanks for the post.

        • Hello Gustavo,

          Thanks for stopping by!

It’s easy to practice what I’m being taught, it’s a testament to the comprehensive, step by step instructions I’m receiving in the training at Wealthy Affiliate. I want to relay the same ease of understanding of the training I’m receiving to others. It is important that I get all I can from the training because I want to succeed. I want others to know if I can do it, they can do it!

The lesson in the Bootcamp training that trained on converting readers to customers was a concept that made sense. Understanding that there are things that need to occur to be able to relate to targeted audiences is what was being taught. Discovering ways to actually help them in their decision making process is necessary. How to structure and organize the content on our websites are a couple ways to help readers find what they are looking for.

I had no formal writing skills in my background and honestly if I needed to, I might have missed this possible opportunity with Wealthy Affiliate. The training explained that if I related/communicated/write to targeted audiences like I’m speaking to family and close friends I would do just fine. So, I hang on to that special guide/instruction when I am writing.

Chronically sharing my training experiences is important!

          Thank you,

      4. Hi Dwilli,

Converting readers into buyers is relatively easy.  Just imagine your ideal customer.  Then write an outline about their want needs and desire.  Age range, location and income bracket then write with them in mind.

It works every time and you will find when you do this, you will be head and shoulders above your competitors on search engines and outrank them.

Try it! You will not be disappointed.

        To your success,

        • Hello Stella,

You seem to know something about converting readers into buyers, that’s great! My article is from the training I received from the Bootcamp training at Wealthy Affiliate. Understanding how to create and organize content that converts targeted audiences to buyers is a key component to affiliate marketing.
